Welcome to Farewell Gardens at Port Puponga, our small family eco-friendly camp is the perfect place to explore Golden Bay and the magnificent west coast beaches, including the famous Wharariki Beach.
Farewell Gardens is a small and tranquil holiday camp, right beside the sea at the base of the famous Farewell Spit, the longest sand spit in New Zealand.
Puponga beach is a safe beach for swimming, kayaking or fishing and at low tide, you can walk close to the resident seal colony at Abel Head. Farewell Spit is a protected Nature reserve with a wide variety of birdlife including Gannets, Black Shag, Royal Spoonbill, Dotterel and Blue Penguin to name a few.
The night sky is amazing for night photography, not to mention the natural scenery which is pristine.
Eco-Tours will pick you up from the gate. (You will need to book online with them and arrange to be picked up from our gate).
Due to our location we can not take rubbish or recycling.
Campervans, please arrive empty - there is a dump station at Collingwood.
We are solely reliant on rainwater, which is filtered and safe to drink.
Please ensure you fill up your water tanks before arriving.

The camp boasts amazing well-established gardens with large sites for a relaxing stay, with many mature native and exotic trees providing shelter and privacy, and an abundance of native birds.
